IoT in Action: Discover new business opportunities with IoT

[MUSIC].>>We’re here IoT in
Action Santa Clara and I’m here with Rishabh
from Quests Global. Tell me a little bit
about how it feels to be IoT in Action and what it means for your team to be able to be here interacting with customers
and industry experts.>>So it’s a pleasure to
be here at IoT in Action. It’s great to be amidst this energy and all the
insightful conversations. We like to leverage this platform
to showcase the capabilities of our solution and how it’s applicable to all
different industries. It’s also very helpful
to understand what the requirements of the industry
as well as the customers is, and how we can cater to those needs.>>Tell us a little bit about what Quest is showing here within
the Expo IoT in Action? How the solution works? What problems does it solve
and plans for deployment?>>So we’re actually showcasing our AI-driven vision
analytics platform, which is called Third Eye. So basically, it takes
the camera feed and then sends it to an AI algorithms, where the inference takes place.>>Okay.>>Then we draw insights from that to give the businesses an
opportunity to create actions, that then reduce their costs
and increase their ROI’s.>>Tell us a little bit about how
Quest is approaching that and why building on the Azure platform really helps you bring
value to customers?>>Yeah. That’s a great question. We actually partnering
with Microsoft, and using Azure platform really
helps us ensure that security is there in the solution from
the ground up all the way from the Edge to
the to the Cloud, and also ensure and empower our solution with features like
high availability and consistency. So just having these major blocks of security communication
protocols in place, it’s easier to focus on the use cases rather than the
architectural competence.>>Can you give us your feedback
and your thoughts on why is it so important to intertwine security
when developing IoT solutions, nowadays, and going forward?>>So I think it’s one of the most fundamental things in any
IoT solution which is security, because there’s a lot of
sensitive data that is being transmitted from
one level to the other. So on an enterprise level, you want to make sure that these enterprises trust
you when they’re working with you and they
feel safe giving you access or creating a
solution around their data. You want to make sure that
you meet a certain level of service level agreement and also ensure that security
is delivered to them.>>What is Quest Global’s
vision for IOT and how are you leveraging that vision
to optimize efficiencies, improve customer experiences, and really just open up new
business opportunities?>>So Quests Global is basically
an engineering services company, which is focused on creating
solutions specific to industries.>>Okay.>>So we help enterprises adopt digital technologies using
Azure services and others. So it’s basically helpful for enterprises to
leverage Azure services, and actually take their
solutions faster to the market.>>Can you tell me
a little bit about, are there any particular
products or services on the Azure platform that
has really helped Quest streamline their deployment
or that you feel is going to really change
the landscape of the Intelligent Edge,
Intelligence Cloud Ecosystem?>>So we’re doing a
lot of work with a lot of different services
given by Microsoft, specifically to the Azure platform, significantly using IoT Hub.>>Okay.>>Then we’re using the SaaS
offering which is IoT Central.>>Right.>>As well as the IoT Edge which falls under the IoT
Edge Hub umbrella. One of the major factors that helps us push our solutions faster is the security component and different security services
such as Azure Active Directory.>>Can you tell me a little bit
about how you see IoT evolving in the next 3-5 years and how you
see your solution here today, or plus Global’s impact and IoT
really driving that growth?>>So we see the industry and IoT primarily moving
towards the edge.>>Right.>>The Intelligence moving
more on the Edge side. So that is, we see the
industry moving and we’d like to focus on catering to
those needs that are coming up.>>If there was an opportunity to reach out and connect
with all the customers watching this video on
why they should work with Quest and why they should leverage your solution,
what would that be?>>So you should leverage our
services as we have expertise in helping enterprises take their
digital technology adoption, and also reduce their time to market. [MUSIC]

Multideur’s migration to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Worldwide millions of doors open and close each day. Multideur ensures that vital organisations
like the Ministry of Defense… …and fire departments have no worries about
their accessibility by using technology. Basically I always say nobody notices a door… …until it doesn’t work anymore. Because then you will find out that the processes
inside a factory can not continue anymore. Fire departments, the Ministry of Defense
or police departments… …you can imagine what will happen if such
a service can not be delivered… …because a door is malfunctioning. Since we are focusing more and more on the service delivery… …we see a big challenge in the speed of
information throughout our processes. In the past we had a very physical process here. With lots of piles of papers and mechanics going
to clients with physical worksheets. But also we had some various systems and
various versions of Navision… …so when a client called with a breakdown or malfunctioning door, we
had to look at different places to find the right information. So the speed and accessibility of information became a big issue. And this is something we wanted to solve with a new system. We chose for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
solution with the Field Service app. Basically it gives us the most easy way to find information. We also ensure that the information is the same at every place. And its accessible for everybody everywhere
because it is in the cloud. So for example a mechanic can now focus on
his job, which is to maintain or service the door… …and less on paperwork and all
kinds of administration instead. Our work used to be a lot of paperwork, a lot of e-mails… …no that was not a nice situation. Now we have more time with the system to
help the customer and work on the project. That makes life easier. We made a big choice to put our system into the cloud. So we do not use local servers anymore. But also no local support. We have a partner which is Prodware. They helped us with defining the system. They helped us find
the best solution for Multideur in our demands and our processes. And today they support us in having the system online
everyday. And help us improve everyday. We are now also working on implementing the business intelligence
app Power BI… …which gives us a lot of management information… …on what we are doing so we can provide
the SLA information to our customers proactively. And also steer ourselfs on our main KPI’s and
the service delivery that we have in the field. In the end we want to deliver our promise. Which is
to deliver the best service to our customers. So basically we already know when a breakdown can happen… …or when specific predictive maintainance needs
to be done before the client even notices. And this is what we are looking into. By use of IOT
which is also supported by the Field Service solution.

THEY’VE MET 30 TIMES OVER THE PAST SIX YEARS. XI GOING SO FAR AS TO CALL PUTIN HIS VERY BEST FRIEND. I ADDED THE “VERY.” IT WAS JUST BEST FRIEND. THERE IT IS. PRESIDENT TRUMP THREATENED MORE TARIFFS ON CHINESE GOODS IN THE COMING WEEKS.>>WHEN AM I GOING TO PUT THE EXTRA $325 BILLION WORTH OF TARIFFS? I WILL MAKE THAT DECISION, I WOULD SAY, OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, PROBABLY RIGHT AFTER THE G-20. ONE WAY OR ANOTHER I’LL MAKE THAT DECISION AFTER THE G-20. LOU: WE MIGHT HAVE HYPER SONIC MISSILES AND WE’RE TICKLED PINK TO TRY THEM OUT.>>JUST IN TERMS OF IF THIS WAS MEANT TO BE AN ECONOMIC SHOW OF FORCE, RUSSIA WE TAKE SERIOUSLY BECAUSE IT’S RUN BY A THUG AND BECAUSE THEY HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS. ITS ECONOMY IS LESS THAN 10% THE SIZE OF OURS. THIS IS NOT A HUGE — LOU: BUT WE DON’T TAKE CHINA SERIOUSLY BECAUSE IT’S RUN BY A GUY IN A THREE-PIECE SUIT AND BUTTON DOWN COLLAR? COME ON. HE’S STEALING HALF A PILL ONDOLLARS FROM US A YEAR. PUTIN ISN’T DOING THAT.>>IF PEUT SEASON NOT IT’S BECAUSE HE DOESN’T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY. LOU: I DIDN’T SAY IT WASN’T A MATTER OF WHEREWITHAL. I WASN’T SUGGESTING IT WAS A HIGHER MORAL PLAIN ON WHICH VLADIMIR PUTIN LIVES. THEY ALSO MAINTAIN A 350 BILLION-DOLLAR TRADE SURPLUS, OR TO US A DEFICIT OF WHICH WILL REDUCE AND HAS REDUCED BY $5 TRILLION OR ECONOMIC GROWTH OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS. I’M STRUGGLING TO FIND THE BENEFIT IN BEING THE TRADING PARTNER OF SUCH A BUNCH OF THIEVES.>>THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY THEFT, YOU’RE 100% RIGHT. I THINK THE PRESIDENT IS PUSHING THE RIGHT ISSUE THERE. LOU: ABSOLUTELY IS.>>TRADE DEFICITS DON’T MATTER MOST OF THE TIME. LOU: WHOA!>>WE’VE HAD GOOD YEARS WITH TRADE DEFICITS. THAT IS OUR GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT IS IT NOT, PLUS OR MIE NEWS TRADE DEFICITS.>>WE CAN HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH A COUNTRY IF THEY’RE MAKING STUFF THAT WE WANT TO BUY. LOU: THIS ISN’T AN ACADEMIC OR HYPOTHETICAL, JAMES.>>NO. LOU: THIS IS A THIEVING BUNCH OF COMMUNISTS STEALING OW COMMUNISTS STEALING OUR FUTURE AND BY THE WAY, WE CAN’T BLAME THE CHINESE BECAUSE THEY’VE STOLEN FROM US. WE SHOULD BLAME OURSELVES FOR PERMITTING IT FOR THE PAST TWO DECADES. IT’S MADNESS AND YOU SAY IT DOESN’T MAT CENTER.>>THE ARGUMENT TO DRIVE A HARD BARGAIN WITH CHINA IS — LOU: HOW ABOUT PRESERVATION.>>HARD TO BARGAIN WITH MEXICO. LOU: WHY?>>THESE ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SITUATIONS. LOU: YOU’VE GOT 20 TO 30 MILLION ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS IN THIS COUNTRY. THEY’RE EXPORTING THE JOORLT OF METHAMPHETAMINES, MARIJUANA, COCAINE, HEROIN, FENTANYL INTO THE UNITED STATES AND KILLING TENSE OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE. I’M SORRY. CAN I NOT CONSIDER THAT THE ACTS OF AN ENEMY STATE?>>WOULDN’T YOU AGREE THAT THE GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO HAS BEEN MUCH MORE REASONABLE THAN THE GOVERNMENT OF CHINA IN TRADE NEGOTIATIONS. LOU: TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, WE HAVE A TRADE AGREEMENT WITH CAN THAT AND WITH MEXICO.>>THEY JUST CUT A NEW AGREEMENT WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP. THE MEXICANS GAVE HIM A LOT OF WHAT HE WAS ASKING FOR. AND NOW AS WE SEE — LOU: WHAT ABOUT THE MATTERS I DID RAISE WITH YOU THAT IS THE BASIS OF THE CRISIS, THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY THIS NATION FACES. The Internet of Things at Work

Yes. It started here in 1969. It came to homes in business in the 90’s. It went mobile in the early 2000’s.
Now it’s everywhere you turn, used by everyone you see, but it’s not stopping there. Everything around us can be connected to
a global Internet of Things. It’s smart, it’s wireless and it’s not something from the future. It’s already started to happen. Welcome to Boston. This
intersection of Beacon Street in Massachusetts Avenue has traditionally
been difficult to manage, that could be about to change. Traffic cameras and
sensors detect people cars and even bicycles using artificial intelligence
and machine learning they will be able to intelligently control traffic signals
and lighting to help reduce the possibility of accidents and the
technology will be there for the future of autonomous vehicles. A vineyard like
this one produces nearly 1 million bottles of wine every year. That involves
an enormous production of grapes and in turn, enormous amounts of water. Sensors
measure air temperature, soil moisture, water flow and more to manage irrigation
settings. This helps improve water usage, prevents plant diseases and reduces the
need for chemical sprays. Tracking of medicine from the factory to customers
has become an issue of paramount importance. Counterfeit and black-market
vaccines cost companies over 75 billion dollars a year and put patient safety at
risk. Small connected sensors can keep track
of not only where vaccines are shipped, but their temperature as well helping to
keep them safe during transit. These examples just scratch the surface.
Smart energy grid saves energy and promote sustainability. Fleet management
tracks assets and creates efficiencies. Connected drones perform inspections
safely and cost-effectively. All of these technologies will change the way we work,
live, even play, but they don’t just happen. It takes massive infrastructure
like widespread fiber networks, investments to reach across the u.s., and
technology like small cells to make sure it’s all fast, high-capacity, and reliable. It may sound a lot like the future but the fact is it’s already started to
happen because we don’t wait for the future, we build it.

Sole Cooperativa Working with IBM to Leverage Internet of Things in Senior Housing

Question: Mrs. Massi, can you please introduce Cooperativa Sole? Cooperativa Sole is a dynamic, strong and go-ahead enterprise, able to propose innovative and effective caring models. Able to offer dignity, well-being and safety to our cared ones. We offer different types of services. from communities for individuals with dual diagnosis, to communities with psychiatric patients, nursing homes, and summer residences for older adults. We provide services for occupational medicine and, for the last couple years, we have been supporting co-housing projects. Question: What it is the purpose of your collaboration with IBM? To test new technologies in order to build innovative caring systems. Question: what are the main issues you want to address through technology? We see two main areas: the first is safety through monitoring of the individual biomedical parameters. The second is a higher quality of life. Question: what are the outcomes you expect to achieve? We want to show that it is possible to envision a new way of caring for the aging and fragile population. Delivering different answers to the needs of people. Question: What are, in your experience, the typical technological gaps of the aging facing technology? For sure most of the older adults do not know the possibilities offered by emerging technologies. Most of the times they are not supported in using it, and a proper communication is missing. Too often technology is perceived as expensive so it is not considered as a possibility.

Lyle Paczkowski, Sprint, Sr Technology Strategist, 5G and Spectrum HD 1080p

(techno music) – 5G is one of the basic shifts in the paradigm of spectrum
past all the prior G’s and the types of spectrum
are really important because of the wave forms, of how wave forms penetrate buildings,
how far do they travel, how many bits they can carry, and how can they be
associated with each other. And so the three different
low, mid, and high ranges of spectrum that the federal
government has authorized, are really a very important
part of a 5G strategy. In the range of spectrum,
the lower the number the better it transmits at a distance but it doesn’t have very good data rates. Interestingly enough, 5G
liberated the use of spectrum in the millimeter wave range. It allowed for high capacities
of data to be moved, although a short distance
with millimeter wave. And so the sweet spot in spectrum
becomes the central point. Two dot five happens to be an interesting capability because of the
size of the wave form. And if you have the ability
to move a lot of data, and move it relatively far,
you now have an advantage. But, the big deal is if you can bond the channels together that are adjacent. Now you have massive
amounts of data you can move by doing carrier aggregation. By adding the capability of massive MIMO and then capping that off
with beam forming really is the sweet spot of where 5G
spectrum would want to go. But two dot five is the classic form of great mobility, great
coverage capacity, and speed. There is some discussion
around what is the right spectrum for 5G? What is the optimal type
of spectrum that you have? And quite frankly the answer is, all spectrum is good spectrum in 5G. The beauty of 5G actually accounts for licensed and unlicensed
spectrum in a magnificent way. The enterprise users who have invested hundreds of thousands
or millions of dollars in their WiFi systems
under WANs will be able to reuse that capability in a graceful and complimentary way
with 5G macro spectrum. Now you’re balancing perfect
in-building solutions with perfect outside solutions. That before was mostly either, or. With 5G capabilities and the
harmonization of the networks, that becomes a reality. Good, solid communication on
computational capabilities on either system are exposed in 5G. Certainly 5G addresses the need for speed, but it also accommodates
other uses for 5G. So, in the world of IoT,
a sensor that requires a connection and low bitrate is
as important to the network as my handset that wants to download Avatar 2 and do it in 10 minutes. And so, that’s the balance that
the carriers are looking at. How do we create and invest
in the right appliances in the network and compute the systems that will deliver these services. It is a delicate balancing act. And obviously the carriers
are interested in solving for the current problems
that mobile appliances, mobile handsets do. But, IoT happens to be
the real big picture. It’s the rule of the wild west. The person that had the biggest
gun ruled the wild west. And the more spectrum you
have in the sweet spot, the better off you are. (techno music)
