What To Do If You Don’t Like Your Business


I just want to go back to the way business was before when it’s so much easier. I hear this one a lot, especially at the higher level where people build a Frankenstein business that starts to become a business that starts to drain on them and it sucks the life out of them. They don’t like what they’ve created because they didn’t think about what they wanted in the first place. So you need to be careful what you wish for because you might end up with it, what you wanted and then when you get there, you’re like, I don’t want this. That’s what I hear. I’m basically saying I don’t want I’ve built. So, simplify and I’ve been doing this exercise a fair bit lately. I sit down with the business owner. I go, let’s look at all the stuff about your business that sucks. And let’s design a business that doesn’t have any of that in it. Let’s clean sheet this. And I step into their space and I’m thinking if I took over you, if I just went into your house or office right now with all the assets you’ve got and all the knowledge you’ve got, what would I build knowing what I know and
what you’ve got? And we clean sheet this and quite often, it’s better to just start fresh than to try and renovate an old business. It’s like a house. It’s sometimes better just to get a nice square piece of land and build the perfect house than to try and upgrade some old haunted mansion.

What Does a Freedom Business Mean?


James Schramko here from SuperFastBusiness com. My good buddy over there is John Lint from 10XPRO.io. Hey, John. Hey, everybody. Nice to be back, James. John, I hope you got your swim or surf in today. I know it’s part of your routine. Yeah, yeah. We get to spend time each year, we reflect on business, we hang out in the Maldives. We surf, swim, snorkel, free dive, chat business, eat healthy food, always a sold-out trip. It’s an amazing trip. But what we do get to do is to hang out with a few other entrepreneurs and just reflect on what does it actually mean to have a lifestyle business? And is it something we actually want? And I really like talking about it with you because in my case, as a business coach, I get to see a lot of businesses. And I’ve seen people on the scale of bordering on lazy, don’t have many needs like no family, living in a lower-price economy, and they don’t need that much to have a good life. And that’s cool. And then there’s the other end of the spectrum where they probably have everything, and they have big needs. And it might come from a really deep down desire to, you know, maybe it’s something that happened when they’re a kid or whatever but they just really like getting into it, and there’s no off button. I’ve seen documentaries of people like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. They seem perfectly happy to be always on, always busy, always reading, and they love it so I’m not judging here. What I’m saying there is a sliding scale between full on and almost full off and probably somewhere in the middle, which I’d classify myself. I’m on when I’m on and I’m on about three days a week. I really, I hate to use the word hustle, but I’m maximizing my focus. That three days a week I do calls, I create content. And then for four days a week, I’ll pull right off the throttle and I recharge, relax, reset. And every single day, I still manage to get my surf in. How are you balancing your workload as you build out the 10XPRO.io software empire? You’ve got this amazing tool that people are really switching on to now. They’re starting to realize, Hey, I don’t need Kartra, I don’t need Click Funnels, I don’t need LearnDash, I don’t need Kajabi, I don’t need all these things that I thought I need. I don’t need a cart, I just need 10XPRO and my CRM software of choice and I’m good to go. And as the user base is rapidly increasing, and it doesn’t hurt that we keep talking about it, how are you managing the workload to not sort of tip it past a point where you’re really comfortable? I can see a surfboard in the background and I know for a fact this is part of your routine. Tell me about it. Yeah, absolutely. A big part, obviously, is to surround yourself with a team. We talked about this all the time, having a team so then you can obviously get some tasks done and get leverage and get that freedom, that extra time is very, very important. So obviously, with 10XPRO.io, we are in a good position from that point of view. We have an amazing team that has been with me for more than seven years now, we have worked on many projects throughout the year. So I have a great support team that handles all the customer support and I have a great development team. So that definitely already there frees up a lot of my time so I can focus on the strategic stuff. So if you’re listening to this, and you’re not in that place yet, then you know, I’m sure you have heard that James and I talked about this many times, building your team is one of the first steps to getting that freedom. And it’s one of the hardest steps, you know? Leading a team of people is not easy. It’s a hard step. However, if you do it right, you end up with what I would call the campfire effect. And that is, if you’ve ever been to a vacation camp or hung out at a campfire, and people sing songs, and there’s a guitar, right? You don’t look around the campfire and see everyone with a song sheet. Most people know the songs and they can sing along. And maybe someone goes away from the campsite, they go to bed early, they go and play a game of cards, someone else will come and sit down and they know the song as well. So over time, your team knows the songs and they know them off by heart. And people can come and go but you don’t have to come and teach them all from scratch. That is the team effect, the campfire effect where you get to perpetuate the culture and the business takes on a life beyond just the founder. And you seem to manage this almost better than anyone I know, John. At the same time your chill and relaxed, but also focused and machine-like. It’s like, you’re not far away from being contacted if there’s something we want to talk about but at the same time you still manage to get your surf, your relaxation. It’s like you chunk your day so that you’re able to balance both. Maybe you’re load balancing it, you’re a multi-thread CPU processor or something. Yeah, I mean, it’s about planning, as well. I actually design my week, right? What type of lifestyle do I want? What do I want to do? Because, yeah, there is business, but then there’s all the other stuff, right? You know, there’s the activities, your health, your nutrition, your relationship, all of that needs to have a space in your calendar, in your week. So it’s not just about work, right? Because, yeah, maybe you’re going to work like crazy, maybe you’re going to make maybe some more money, but maybe you’re going to be miserable because everything else is lacking. So it’s all about the balance, right? Like, when we go to Maldives, it’s all about enjoying life, chilling out. There’s still internet on the boat so if there is anything that happens, okay, we might still react if there is a big need. But otherwise it’s all about letting go and really enjoying that business that we built which is all about, for me, at least the most important thing, is freedom and lifestyle. And freedom has always been a very important aspect of the life I want to create. Freedom is very, very important. That’s why I live in all these different countries because I like that, I like that type of freedom, being able to move. I like to go on holidays pretty much five, six times a year, you know? We go to Bali, we’re about to go to Philippines together. I’m going to go to Africa next year, back to Maldive, I’m trying to plan that because that’s the lifestyle I want. So therefore, I want a business that will be able to support that, right? So that’s where you have systems in place, you have a team in place, you have procedures and documentation in place, like you said. And then it’s all about balancing your week and for me, I know that, okay, in the morning, I have the specific things I want to do. I want to go to the beach, I want to swim, I want to maybe work out, I want to chill at the pool. And yeah, you might think well, he’s only having fun. I am having fun but at the same time, as an entrepreneur, it’s a very important time to reflect on different things. Yeah, your brain hasn’t switched off but it’s solving the challenges. To a large extent, I think you’ve created a freedom machine like the platform you’ve built with 10XPRO is where you can put your course and people can buy it. While you’re at the pool, people can still buy the course, you know? Traits of A Successful Business Owner


We’ve been lucky to work with over 300 business owners now. And what we found is success leaves clues. So here I’m going to share with you 10 traits or 10 things we see in the most successful business owners. So, the first thing is a clear vision or goal, like, where do you want to go? If a space shuttle takes off and it’s going to the moon, if it doesn’t have clear coordinates, there’s no chances that it’s going to get there. So you really, really do need to know where you want to go and document it, you know, that kind of thing? Do you have a good business vehicle? So here we’re talking about Amazon because it’s leverage on a global scale. So with traditional business, you know, selling in a market and then whoever came past that were your customers. Here we’re talking about, well, if we get on a winner, we can literally scale this thing around the world. And very, very quickly, like within a year, realistically. Number three, and you guys are all ticking the box on this, continual learning. So this is so, so, so important. I see some people that think, you know, once they get a certain way along, I’m too good. I don’t need to keep doing this stuff. But I just think just be a continual student of it and just keep getting better and better all the time. Number four, an ongoing focus on mindset. So remember, I said before that your mindset is really your most important part. Tony Robbins says success is as much as 80% mindset. So really, really important. Number five is manage your emotions. So you might think, well, why is he talking about emotions in an Amazon conference? The reason is because business isn’t all smooth sailing, it’s not all just going up like that. You’ve got some real peaks and you’ve got some troughs. And the most successful business owners we meet, they actually manage their emotions like this. They’re not like from really stressed and really, you know, like that kind of thing. So manage your emotions.
